Job Description

JOB SUMMARY:

The Wireless & Audio Visual Engineer role is to focus on the overall operation and strategic development of all aspects of enterprise wireless communications, ensuring wireless system stability and integrity, optimizing processes and technology, and ensuring a high availability platform.

The Wireless & Audio Visual Engineer will also work closely with the Lead Wireless & Audio Visual Engineer as well as IST Management Staff and decision makers in other departments in order to identify, recommend, develop, implement, and support cost-effective wireless technology solutions for all aspects of the enterprise.

Focuses on customer service and support and promotes a positive and professional image of the Information Services & Technology Department and of Cape Fear Valley Health System.

MAJOR JOB FUNCTIONS:

Work with stakeholders to identify business and systems requirements for new wireless and audio visual technology implementations.

Guide wireless technical design activities to ensure design intent is clear and that the infrastructure impact is understood.

Resolve wireless hardware, operational, infrastructure, and application incidents.

Provide troubleshooting and quickly resolve routine problems to ensure wireless and audio video infrastructure and associated application stability.

Work with Lead Wireless and Audio Visual Engineer as well as IST management and architects to ensure wireless and audio visual systems are in line with overall IST policies and standards.

Collaborate closely with multiple partners across the organization to ensure that wireless and audio visual communications continues to meet evolving business needs.

Reviews all reports and documentation related to wireless and audio visual systems operations.

Follows maintenance schedules for wireless and audio visual systems and equipment related to its overall operation.

Participates in the deployment, monitoring, maintenance, development, upgrade, and support of wireless and audio visual systems and associated hardware.

Recommend purchase of equipment and supplies in order to meet operational requirements of the business.

Analyze existing wireless operations and make recommendations for the improvement and growth of the wireless infrastructure.

  1. Passionate about the wireless and audio visual environment while working on even rudimentary issues, but needs to have the experience and understanding to handle the most complex of issues.

Provides assistance with business functions that require the use of video teleconference and audio visual systems. Offers training to individuals that will utilize said systems.

Performs all other related functions and special projects as required by management.

QUALIFICATIONS:

The following qualifications, or equivalents, are the minimum require­ments necessary to perform the essential functions of this job:

EDUCATION AND FORMAL TRAINING:

University degree in the field of Computer Science, Engineering, Information Systems or equivalent experience. Maintains technical knowledge within areas of expertise. Stays current with new and evolving technologies via formal training and self-directed education. Cisco certifications are a plus. Degree/Certifications may be substituted with significant documented experience.

WORK EXPERIENCE:

Three to five years total work experience in technical infrastructure field.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES REQUIRED:

Strong technical knowledge of all aspects of wireless communications to include:

Licensed and Unlicensed Frequency Usage

Wi-Fi 802.11a/b/g/n/ac and future IEEE standards.

Cellular Voice and Data Technologies

Distributed Antenna Systems (DAS)

UHF, VHF, and Public Safety Frequencies (VIPER System)

Technical knowledge of Cisco Telepresence endpoints and UC infrastructure (TMS, TMSXE, VCS, CUCM, etc) and Jabber.

Technical knowledge of audio visual system and control units from vendors such as Crestron AV Control as well as A/V concepts around audio and video signal types, routing, and cabling.

Understanding of current wireless and audio visual technologies and future direction.

Understanding of wireless security protocols and encryption.

Understanding of Guest Wireless Network configuration and security implications.

Experience with performing Wireless Site Surveys.

  • Ability to analyze, troubleshoot and repair radio frequencies distributed by the wireless environment.
  • Experienced in the maintenance and troubleshooting to the wireless spectrum and frequency level.
  • IST experience within a healthcare environment is highly desirable.
  • Strong technical knowledge of audio video systems and video teleconferencing technologies.
  • Digital signage (AppSpace).
